Milligan celebrates 100th birthday

Martha “Tootsie” Smallwood Milligan, of Maryville, is celebrating her 100th birthday. She was born Jan. 19, 1913 in Chattanooga, to the late L.C. and Elizabeth Smallwood. She was married to the late Harry Milligan.

Her children include daughter Beth Dicus, of Maryville and David Milligan, of Augusta, Ga. She has five grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Milligan was employed by the University of Chattanooga, administrative offices. She is a member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church and also the Daughters of the American Revolution. She remains active and is a great storyteller. She enjoys sharing her birthday with Robert E. Lee.
