Areas of Blount County, Smoky Mountains under flood watch, along with East Tennessee and southwest North Carolina

From Staff Reports

A flood watch remains in effect for northwest Blount County and the Smoky Mountain areas of Blount from noon today through Wednesday morning for East Tennessee and extreme southwest North Carolina.

A nearly stationary cold front will crate a prolonged period of rain through Tuesday night, bringing widespread rainfall totals of 2 to 3 inches with locally higher amounts possible by Tuesday night.

Flooding of low lying or flood prone areas could occur, while area streams and rivers will rise and could experience some flooding.

A flood watch means that conditions are favorable for the possibility of flooding in and around the watch area. If you are in the watch area, keep an eye out for rising water or water flowing over roadways. Keep informed and be ready for action if flooding is observed or if a flood warning is issued.

If you come to a closed or flooded road, turn around -- don't drown!
