Audience instructions given as NBC's 'Today' to broadcast live from UT on Monday
From Staff Reports
University of Tennessee is encouraging faculty, staff, students and fans to wear orange and come out to be in the crowd on national TV on Monday. The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, won the "Today" show's "Kathie Lee and Hoda Go Back to College" challenge, beating out five other schools for a chance to host the show.
After a heated competition with schools across the country, UT won the "Kathie Lee and Hoda Go Back to College" challenge. The "fourth-hour ladies" searched nationwide for the campus with the most spirit. To become a finalist, UT fans tweeted the show about why Rocky Top should host. The six schools with the most tweets then entered into phase two of the contest where fans voted on the show's website.
Show producers have issued a sign challenge for the live show. The best signs that show why fans love Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb may be featured in the show.
The show will be broadcast from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday and audience members should arrive at 8 a.m. on the south side (hillside) of Ayres Hall. The audience will stand around the set to help create a Big Orange atmosphere, with limited handicap seating available.
Public parking is available for a fee in several parking garages near campus, including the Volunteer Hall Garage located off of White Avenue. Parking at Volunteer Hall costs $1 per half hour.
Locate additional parking areas near campus by going here.
A limited number of handicap parking spaces will be available on the Hill. Additional handicap spaces will be set aside in Staff Lot 9, located on Phillip Fulmer Way, with shuttles to bring people to the Hill.
In the event of rain, the show will broadcast from inside Thompson-Boling Arena. Please refer to http://www.utk.edu for updates and parking instructions.
