Blount Memorial diverting patients
Staff Reports
Due to a high patient volume, Blount Memorial Hospital started diverting medical patients to other hospitals at 11:30 a.m. today.
“We have a lot of critically ill patients with a variety of illnesses,” according to hospital spokesman Josh West. He said the hospital has been seeing fewer flu patients recently — and that is not the cause of the diversion.
“We hope to be back (receiving patients) in one or two hours,” West said.
While Rural/Metro ambulances are being asked to take patients to other hospitals, he added that if a sick person walks into the hospital then employees will take care of them.
