The driver that was killed Monday evening in an accident in the 4800 block of Morganton Road near Salem Church Road in Greenback has been identified.

According to a traffic report, Jeremiah P. Davidson, 33, Lambert Road, Greenback, was driving a 1995 Ford F-150 white pickup truck west on Morganton Road at approximately 8:46 p.m. While negotiating a curve, his vehicle left the right side of the roadway, crashing head-on into a tree.

There was no indication of braking prior to the impact with the tree, the report said. Witnesses on the scene said Davidson had passed them going the same direction prior to crashing, and he was driving at a high rate of speed. He was transported via Rural/Metro to Blount Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

There was no alcohol or any other substance found in his system, according to the report.

Blount County Sheriff’s Office deputies, the Blount County Rescue Squad, the Blount County Fire Department and the Greenback Volunteer Fire Department were dispatched to the scene.
