Drug bust nets 35 arrests in Blount County

Authorities arrested 35 Blount County residents on drug-related charges Thursday following a lengthy investigation into the illicit sale of crack cocaine and prescription drugs, the Blount County Sheriff’s Office reported.
Officers with the Maryville and Alcoa Police Departments and Blount County Sheriff’s Office deputies assisted the Fifth Judicial Drug Task Force and Violent Crime Task Force Thursday during the busts.
Authorities were looking for 41 individuals in connection with 109 drug-related charges.
Captain Talbott of the Fifth Judicial Drug Task Force said the investigation is another step in tackling Blount County’s drug diversion problem.
This bust follows another investigation into two Blount County pain clinics involving the Drug Task Force, the Drug Enforcement Administration and the United States Attorney Generals Office.
