Former owner of pain management clinic fails to appear in court, arrest warrant issued

By J.J. KINDRED | (jj.kindred@thedailytimes.com)

KNOXVILLE — One day after federal prosecutors rested their case against Tamral "Tammy" Guzman, the 42-year-old failed to show up in U.S. District Court and a warrant has been issued for her arrest.

Guzman’s attorney, Michael Menefee, told U.S. District Judge Thomas A. Varlan that he attempted to call his client after she failed to appear, but her phone had been disconnected. Menefee said Guzman had left a note with her mother, which read, "I'm sorry for all of the trouble that I've caused and I don't know when I will be back."

Guzman's mother, Sandra Gardner, lives in Maryville and a subpoena has been issued summoning her to appear in court, which will resume at 11 a.m. today.
