A Blount County Circuit Court jury acquitted a Maryville man early this evening in the death of an infant girl in July 2010.
The jury of six men and six women found Michael Ryan Cody, 22, who now has a Knoxville address, not guilty of criminally negligent homicide in the death of 10-week-old Braylee Luttrell on July 17, 2010.
With his parents and the baby’s mother, Latricia (Tricia) Luttrell present, Cody raised his hands in the air with joy as the verdict was read.
After the jury confirmed its verdict, Judge David Duggan gave Cody the option of having the charges exonerated from his record, which he accepted.
Cody then hugged his parents with tears of joy, and afterward hugged Luttrell and others involved as a symbol of being at peace.
Cody took the witness stand earlier today, giving his version of what happened the morning of the baby’s death.
