A man was injured when his vehicle crashed into a telephone pole on East Lincoln Road in Alcoa this morning.
About 10:30 a.m., Christopher Thomas, 29, was following his girlfriend, Kerena Hall, north on East Lincoln in his 1998 Chevrolet Malibu, when he felt lightheaded and temporarily lost consciousness.
“I didn’t see exactly what happened,” Hall said. “He said he had been sick and he was coughing real bad, and that made him lightheaded. He had his head down and the next thing he knew, when he looked up, he was flipping and crashed into the telephone pole.”
Thomas was complaining of pain in his left arm, Hall said. He was taken to the hospital via Rural/Metro.
Alcoa police officers, Rural/Metro and the Alcoa Fire Department were dispatched to the scene. Utility workers with the City of Alcoa were also on the scene to remove the wreckage, and traffic was temporarily stalled.
More details will follow as they become available.
