Maryville man dies in Greenback wreck
Christopher J. Smiley, 21, of Maryville, was killed in an
accident in Greenback at 10:40 p.m. Monday.
According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper Samuel Holcomb, Smiley was driving a 1996 Honda Accord northbound on Tenn. 95 at a high rate of speed.
The driver failed to negotiate a curve, causing the vehicle to leave the left side of the road and strike a tree. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
The accident occurred at the intersection with Tennessee Avenue in an area with a speed limit of 45 miles per hour.
He was using a safety belt but in the officer’s opinion seat belts made no difference. A drug test is requested.
