Maryville man drowns in Tellico Lake
From Staff Reports
The victim, who has not yet been identified, was the boat's sole occupant, the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) said in a news release.
Loudon County E-911 received a call at 7:42 p.m. reporting that a man was riding near the bow of a houseboat when he fell overboard near the port bow.
A witness, who shut off power to the boat after it ran onto some rocks, said the victim began swimming toward shore when he went under water and never resurfaced.
The Loudon County Dive and Rescue Squad recovered the body about 40 yards off the shoreline at around 9:25 p.m.
A Loudon County TWRA officer reported that a cable-type railing was loose near the bow.
An autopsy is currently pending, authorities said.
