A 66-year-old Maryville man was killed in a car accident on Garland Road early this morning, according to the Blount County Sheriff’s Office.
Sharkey Chambers, of Garland Road, Maryville, was pronounced dead at Blount Memorial Hospital following the accident.
According to Blount County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Marian O’Briant, Chambers was traveling east on Garland Road at about 6:28 a.m. in a 1998 Buick LeSabre, when his car ran off the right side of the road while negotiating a curve and struck a tree head-on.
Chambers was taken by Rural/Metro Ambulance Service to Blount Memorial, where he was pronounced dead. He was not wearing a seat belt, but air bags did deploy, O’Briant said.
The accident is under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office Traffic Safety Unit.
