Saturation patrol announced for St. Patrick's Day weekend

Staff Reports

Maryville Police Department is coordinating a wide area saturation patrol to coincide with the St. Patrick’s Day weekend.

The department’s effort, which is being conducted in conjunction with the Blount County Sheriff’s Office, Alcoa Police Department and the Tennessee Highway Patrol, are being organized to help reduce the incidents of impaired driving and the subsequent traffic crashes and injuries related to this weekend. Enforcement efforts will focus on impaired and aggressive driving violations.

Officers from each agency will be assigned to focus their efforts on — but not limited to  — Alcoa Highway, Highway 129 Bypass, and Highway 411 South. This corridor is a main thoroughfare through Blount County, and law enforcement wants to increase the safety of this area for the motoring public. The saturation patrol will run through Sunday.

The agencies stated, “If you drive impaired, we will be there.” Violators will go to jail.

Law enforcement is recommending that people use a designated driver to avoid the stiff consequences of driving impaired and to respect the right of others on the roadways.
