State issues Code Orange air quality alert

The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation has issued an air quality action day for the Great Smoky Mountains area that will remain in effect until 10 p.m. Thursday.
A Code Orange air quality alert has been issued, meaning ground level ozone concentrations may approach or exceed unhealthy standards. Members of sensitive groups -- active children and adults, people with respiratory disease such as asthma -- should limit prolonged outdoor exertion.
