Townsend house fire results in fatality; children safe

One person is dead following an early morning fire at a Townsend farmhouse, but three children managed to escape the blaze.
Firefighters are still
on the scene of the blaze, which they began fighting around 3 a.m. The victim is thought to be an
adult woman, while three children, ranging in age from about 5 to 14 years old, safely escaped the
two-story farmhouse on Koella Lane. Firefighters are still combating a blaze in the basement of
the structure.
The frame structure is located across Little River from the Strawberry Patch on East Lamar Alexander Parkway. Rescue workers used Webb Road to get to Koella Lane, where the house is located.
Blount County Sheriff's Office is not releasing the victim's identity. The body will be taken to University of Tennessee Medical Center and an autopsy will be conducted later today.
The three juveniles who lived at the residence are unharmed and
safe. They are in the custody of the Tennessee Department of Human Services.
A Sheriff’s Office fire investigator is investigating the cause and origin of the fire.
Townsend
Volunteer Fire Department is currently on the scene and Blount County Fire Department has cleared
the scene. Tankers are being used to convey water to the scene to fight the
fire.
