About 300 enjoy Broadway Methodist Men’s pancakes

By Rheta Murry | (rhetam@thedailytimes.com)

Broadway United Methodist men fed about 300 people Saturday morning, filling the stomachs of many Christmas parade-goers.

“We had 22 of our members working, and many times we would have 40 to 50 people we were serving at one time,” said Robert Russell, president of the Broadway United Methodist Men. “We had no backups this year. When we had people who knew what they were doing.”

For the past 10 years, the organization has served an average of 300 people, always on the morning of the Maryville/Alcoa Christmas parade.

The money from the pancake breakfast, as well as several other fundraisers, provide Broadway United Methodist Church of Maryville church with enough money to give each student member of the church a scholarship to attend either college or a trade school.

Russell said they also do maintenance and repair at the church. The Broadway men also sponsor spring and fall golf tournaments.
