Alcoa man charged with statutory rape

An Alcoa man was charged with multiple counts of sexual conduct with a minor child Wednesday evening following a police investigation which began at the end of last week.
Steven Leroy Myers, 47, Grayson Drive, was charged with statutory rape by an authority figure, incest and soliciting sexual exploitation of a minor. He was being held in lieu of bonds totaling $75,000 pending a Monday hearing in Blount County General Sessions Court.
Alcoa police officers responded to Grayson Apartments Friday at 6:28 p.m. to a report of inappropriate sexual conduct between an adult and a minor victim.
When police arrived, they spoke with the Alcoa man accused of abusing the victim, a 15-year-old girl, and he informed police that he did not know where the she was and that she frequently runs away.
Alcoa Police Detective Kris Sanders was called to the scene and did a preliminary investigation before taking Myers into investigative custody.
Through the course of the investigation over the weekend, Myers was initially charged with two counts of contributing or encouraging the delinquency of a child and one count of contributing to or encouraging unruly behavior of a child. He was held in lieu of bonds totaling $7,500 on those charges pending a Monday hearing in Blount County General Sessions Court.
Additional charges
Upon further investigation, including interviews with the victim and witnesses, the allegations of sexual abuse were revealed and Myers was charged on the three additional counts. The Department of Children’s Services has taken the victim and any other endangered minors into protective custody.
