The new Calhoun’s Restaurant in Maryville is slated to open in mid- to late-September on Watkins Road near Target and Kroger, but hiring of new employees started on Monday.
“We’re getting some good applicants. We’re excited about having a Calhoun’s in Maryville,” said Bart Fricks, chief operating officer of the Copper Cellar restaurant chain.
Fricks said as they hire employees they are placed at other restaurants for training. “They get valuable experience that way. We try to get the core of the people trained that way,” Fricks said.
Calhoun’s will be located in the former Marlin and Ray’s Restaurant, which closed it January. It is adjacent to Smoky Mountain Brewery, which is also owned by the Copper Cellar chain, near the intersection of East Lamar Alexander Parkway and the U.S. 129 Bypass.
The two restaurants are a good fit, Fricks said. “People can dine at Calhoun’s and then go next door and enjoy a microbrew at Smoky Mountain Brewery. It just works well,” he said.
Copper Cellar has three other locations where the restaurants are located side by side.
The new approximately 6,000-square-foot eatery, including a deck at the back, received a beer permit Tuesday night from Maryville Beer Board.
The restaurant is expected to hire 75 to 100 people. Applications can be obtained at http://calhouns.com or in person at Smoky Mountain Brewery in Maryville.
Fricks said people can follow the restaurant’s progress on Facebook or Twitter.
There are four other Smoky Mountain Brewery locations, and this will be the ninth Calhoun’s restaurant in the chain.
