Dog rescued after stuck in drainage tile for more than a week

By Iva Butler | (ivab@thedailytimes.com)

After being trapped in a drainage tile from 10 to 14 days, a tan and white pit bull named Little Mama was rescued in 90 minutes Thursday afternoon.

Dennis and Shirley Cowan of Old Niles Ferry Road, Maryville, heard a noise for quite a while, but could not locate the source. Little Mama finally was able to bark loud enough for the Cowans to locate her trapped in the drain underneath their driveway Thursday.

The large dog had entered a 15-inch tile and become stuck when she reached a 12-inch section section of tile that had been joined with t he larger pipe.

Shirley Cowan immediately called Blount County Fire Department at 1 p.m. and a crew from Blount County Highway Department and a deputy with Blount County Sheriff’s Office were mobilized to rescue the pup.
