Driver charged with vehicular assault
From Staff Reports
A driver who struck and injured two bicyclists in August 2011 was charged Sunday following the completion of the investigation, according to Townsend Police Chief Ronnie Suttles.
Amy Shondale Myers, 32, Wears Valley Road, Townsend, was incarcerated at the Blount County Jail on bonds totaling $9,600.
Myers was charged with driving under the influence, two counts of vehicular assault, two counts of violating the 3-foot law (Jeff Roth Bicycle and Pedalcyclists Protection Act of 2007) and two counts of leaving the scene of an accident with death or injury.
Myers will face charges at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Blount County General Sessions Court.
The arrest is the result of a year-long investigation into the accident that injured two bicyclists on Aug. 11, 2011.
Franklin R. Woody and Barry W. Crowson, both of Maryville, received multiple injuries after Myers struck them while the two rode along Scenic Tenn. 73 near Cowboy Tubin.’ Myers then fled the scene, according to Suttles.
A short time later, Myers was in a second accident on Old Walland Highway when she lost control of her vehicle and struck a utility pole. Myers was injured in the second accident.
