Dunkin’ Donuts to open Monday

Blount County’s first Dunkin’ Donuts will open at 5 a.m. Monday at 1810 W. Broadway Ave. in Maryville.
The company purchased a former Regions Bank building which contractors are busy renovating.
The restaurant encompasses 1,878 square feet and will have seating for 22. There will also be a drive-through window, which traditionally accounts for 50 percent of sales, said Clay Cooper, director of operations for the local Dunkin’ Donuts group.
The grand opening will be held Tuesday, with a ribbon cutting at 10 a.m.
The distinctive orange and hot pink Dunkin’ Donuts signs stand out along the busy highway.
“The first few days we will sell over 500 dozen doughnuts a day,” Cooper said.
He also expects to sell cups and cups of coffee. “Dunkin’ Donuts is one of the largest coffee sellers in the world,” he said.
They sell lattes, iced coffee, hot chocolate and bulk coffee in bags and single- serve coffee in K-Cup Packs in all varieties from Keurig, he said.
The company, which will have 50 employees when it opens, will be managed by Crystal Branscum.
Hours are 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday.
Dunkin’ Donuts also sells breakfast sandwiches and hashbrowns.
“We are one of the largest sellers of bagels in the world,” Cooper said.
They also sell cookies, Danishes, muffins and other bakery goods.
In addition to the traditional breakfast foods, they sell lunch sandwiches like chicken salad, ham and cheese, grilled cheese, tuna salad and turkey, cheddar and bacon on croissants, bagels buns and Texas toast.
The company has been in existence for 62 years.
The first Dunkin’ Donuts was opened in 1950 by Bill Rosenberg in Quincy, Mass.
At the end of 2011, the company had 10,083 stores worldwide, including 7,015 in the U.S. and 3,068 in 32 foreign countries
The local franchisee is Dave Baumgartner of Knoxville. Owner is Maryville Coffee LLC.
