Early morning fire damages mobile home

A mobile home was practically destroyed by early Sunday morning fire, causing extensive damage to the interior and most of the exterior.
The residence was located on the 400 block of Mistletoe Drive in Kensington Place, a mobile home park off West Lamar Alexander Parkway, near Heritage High School.
Firefighters from the Blount County Fire Department were called to the scene just before 8:34 a.m. Sunday, and the fire was put out at approximately 9 a.m., according to spokesman Will Thacker.
Two people suffered from smoke inhalation and one of them received minor burns, but they refused medical treatment, Thacker said. The names of the mobile home’s occupants were not released.
Luis Alonzo, who lives across the street from the burned residence, said he saw smoke and thought he and his family could have been in danger.
“I saw all the fire trucks, the police, everything,” Alonzo said. “It woke us up.”
Paul and Donna Darling live nearby and said it was the second mobile home fire they have seen in the area in the last six months.
“We had (a fire) behind us four months ago,” Paul Darling said. “I don’t think they had insurance.”
The cause of the fire is under investigation, but there could have been several factors, such as faulty wiring or heating units, Thacker said.
“That’s the thing about mobile homes: they can go up so quickly,” Donna Darling said.
