One person was killed and two others were injured in a two-vehicle accident on Alcoa Highway near the Days Inn Motel Thursday afternoon.
The Alcoa Police and Fire Departments, along with Rural/Metro were dispatched to the scene at about 1:25 p.m.
An unidentified driver in a 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier with a passenger attempted to cross over the northbound lanes to pull into the Days Inn parking lot.
The Cavalier failed to yield the right of way to a 2005 Cadillac Escalade, traveling north, which collided with the Cavalier, according to an Alcoa Police Department news release.
The impact killed the passenger in the Cavalier instantly and critically injured the driver, who was taken to University of Tennessee Medical Center.
The Escalade driver was taken to Blount Memorial Hospital for her injuries, which appeared to be minor.
Officials are not releasing the names of the victims until the next of kin are notified.
All drivers were wearing their seat belts and their vehicles’ air bags deployed, officers said.
