Former deputy charged in fatal shooting remains in custody
From Staff Reports
A former Blount County Sheriff’s Office deputy charged in the fatal shooting of his wife remained jailed Wednesday as a preliminary hearing in the case was moved to December.
Danny Ray Brewer, 37, Maryville, was scheduled to appear at a Dec. 14 hearing in the General Sessions Court of Judge Michael A. Gallegos. Brewer faces a criminal homicide charge stemming from the Sept. 8 shooting death of his 29-year-old wife, Jennifer L. Brewer, at their Sevierville Road apartment complex.
Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the apartment at 11:19 a.m. Sept. 8 to find Brewer naked, screaming and covered in blood, according to a Blount County Sheriff’s Office report. Deputies led him out of the room and secured a gun apparently used in the shooting, the report states.
Authorities say they then found Jennifer Brewer lying face up in bed and bleeding from the left side of her chest. Deputies could not find a pulse and she was not breathing, the report states. Rural/Metro Ambulance Service transported her to Blount Memorial Hospital where she was declared dead.
Brewer was at first held for investigation and later charged with criminal homicide.
In addition to previously working with the Sheriff’s Office, Brewer is also a former Rockford police officer who was involved in a May 2000 fatal crash while en route to assist a deputy. That accident on May 16, 2000, killed 29-year-old Jennifer Lowe Bean of Jackson Hills Drive, Maryville.
