Gaynell Lawson to replace Joe Bruce as CBBC president/CEO
From Staff Reports
CBBC has named Gaynell Lawson as its new president and chief executive officer, taking over the helm from retiring Joe Bruce, the bank’s founder.
A Blount County native, Lawson previously served as senior vice president and chief financial officer for the bank.
The bank’s board of directors in May announced Lawson as the new president of the bank, but at that time Bruce remained CEO and board vice chairman. Lawson is also a member of the board.
Both Bruce and Lawson have been employed with CBBC since its inception in 1973.
“It’s been an honor and a privilege to have served with Joe,” Lawson said in a news release.
“I’m excited about this new role and look forward to continuing the bank’s success we’ve had under Joe’s leadership.”
Celebrating its 40th anniversary in September, CBBC “has enjoyed a very profitable first part of the year,” Lawson said, “and we’re looking forward to a smooth continuation of this performance.”
The locally owned CBBC’s mission continues to be “to deliver a wide range of desirable products and services to our customers in an attentive, ethical, efficient and profitable manner. These services will be provided by a loyal, highly trained and well-cared for team of achievers, who recognize the importance of being good citizens in the communities we call home.”
Lawson is a graduate of Friendsville High School, Maryville College and the Tennessee School of Banking. She graduated with Highest Honors from the School for Bank Administration at the University of Wisconsin.
Active in community and civic organizations for years, Lawson was chair of the Blount County United Way General Campaign in 2001, while serving on its board of directors for several years. A graduate of Leadership Blount, Lawson has also served on the board of directors of the American Red Cross and the Blount County Chamber of Commerce.
Lawson and her husband, Dan, have three daughters, Mindy Stooksbury, Jennifer Moore and Julia Lawson.
Founded as Citizens Bank of Blount County in 1973, CBBC operates ten branches throughout Blount and Knox counties.
