A Greenback man was critically injured in a single-vehicle accident Tuesday morning on Mint Road in Maryville.
Kenneth Wayne McCoy, 48, of North Trigonia Road, was traveling east on Mint Road in a 2006 Nissan Titan pickup truck at about 10:30 a.m. when he lost control of the vehicle and struck a tree on the right side of the road, according to Blount County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Marian O’Briant.
The air bags in McCoy’s truck deployed, but he was not wearing his seat belt, O’Briant said.
McCoy was taken by Rural/Metro to the University of Tennessee Medical Center, where he is listed in critical condition.
One man who lives in a nearby neighborhood said that he was picking up his daughter and did not actually see the accident, but saw the damaged truck on the side of the road.
“I saw (the truck) there in the tree. It was pretty bad,” said the man, who was not identified.
The Blount County Fire Department also responded to the scene. The accident is under investigation by the Blount County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Safety Unit.
