Marty Black receives 2012 Champion of Library Award

From Blount County Public Library

One of the highlights of the Blount County Public Library’s 10th anniversary celebration was the presentation of the Champion of the Library award to Martha (Marty) S. L. Black.

During the eight years that the new, current facility was being planned, funded and constructed, Black served as a member of the Library Board of Trustees and as secretary of the Foundation for the Blount County Public Library.

When the current library facility was being constructed, she helped to establish the foundation and acquired the 501(c)3 status for certification as a nonprofit fundraising body in the state of Tennessee.

She worked tirelessly raising funds from private sources during the capital campaign and was a strong and articulate advocate for public funding by the three government entities: Blount County, Maryville, and Alcoa.

After the library building construction was completed, Marty and her husband, David Black, have continued to support the library as sponsors of every fundraising gala and anniversary celebration.

A lifelong resident of Blount County, Marty Black is a graduate of the University of Tennessee College of Law.

She is a partner in Kizer and Black Attorneys, LLC, specializing in estate planning, probate and elder law.
