Michael Talley elected Townsend mayor

By Iva Butler | (ivab@thedailytimes.com)

Three newly elected Townsend city commissioners took the oath of office and new officers were elected in a called meeting Saturday morning.

Mike Talley is the new mayor and Becky Headrick is the new vice mayor and is commissioner over streets and maintenance. Under the city regulations, she automatically becomes chairman of Townsend Planning Commission.

Ron Palewski is the commissioner over police matters, Jackie Suttles is over recreation and David Wietlisbach was appointed to be the commission representative on Townsend Planning Commission.

Former Mayor Pat Jenkins did not seek re-election.

Talley mentioned these goals:

• Have the commission consider revising the city charter and beer regulations.

• Talk to Blount County Commission about Little River usage rights.

• Update the personnel policies to have individual job descriptions.

• Look at city-sponsored events, such as establishing Winter Fest.
