Motorcycle crash on Morganton Road kills Maryville man

A motorcycle accident on Morganton Road Wednesday afternoon left a 39-year-old Maryville man dead.
Gary Scott Worley, Morganton Road, Maryville, was traveling north on Morganton Road at about 1 p.m. when his motorcycle rear-ended a pickup truck pulling out of Wells Road, according to the Blount County Sheriff’s Office. Worley’s helmet, a state-approved make, was knocked off by the impact.
Rural/Metro Ambulance Service transported Worley to the University of Tennessee Medical Center where he was pronounced dead later that afternoon.
The driver of the pickup, Robert P. Shields, 23, Wells Road, declined medical attention at the scene. He was not wearing his seat belt, officers said.
The Sheriff’s Office Traffic Safety Unit is investigating.
