Preliminary hearing set in former deputy homicide case

A preliminary hearing for a former Blount County deputy who is charged with killing his wife has been scheduled for Nov. 9.
Danny Ray Brewer, 37, will appear at 1:30 p.m. in front of Judge Michael A. Gallegos in Blount County General Sessions Court.
Brewer, who was in court Friday for the setting of the hearing, remains in Blount County Jail under $950,000 bond. Also in court was his attorney, Public Defender Mack Garner.
Brewer is charged with criminal homicide in the death of his wife, Jennifer L. Brewer, 29.
He allegedly shot her in their apartment in a Sevier Avenue apartment complex in Maryville.
Blount County deputies responded to the apartment at 11:19 a.m. Sept. 8 to find Brewer naked, screaming and covered in blood, according to the Blount County Sheriff’s Office report.
Deputies ushered him out of the room and secured a gun apparently used in the shooting.
Jennifer Brewer was found lying face up in bed bleeding from the left side of her chest.
Officers checked but found no pulse and she was not breathing, Blood was coming from a large wound on the left side of her chest.
Rural/Metro Ambulance Service employees took Brewer to Blount Memorial Hospital where she was declared dead.
Brewer was at first held for investigation and later charged with the murder of his wife.
Brewer is a former Rockford and Blount County deputy.
