A Rockford man was arrested this week after reportedly having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old Knoxville girl.
Ross Alfred Pruitt Jr., 34, Sayne Road, Rockford, was taken into custody Tuesday, though he was not formally charged until Thursday. He was charged with aggravated statutory rape and was released from the Blount County Jail on $10,000 bond pending a hearing tomorrow in Blount County General Sessions Court.
Alcoa Police Detective Kris Sanders said Pruitt was initially stopped by Blount County Sheriff’s Office deputies Tuesday for a traffic violation, at which point deputies discovered he had a 15-year-old passenger in the vehicle.
While being questioned, the pair reportedly tried to hide the girl’s age. During the investigation, the girl alluded to the fact that she had sexual intercourse with Pruitt at a hotel in Alcoa, Sanders said. At Sanders’ request, Pruitt was taken into custody.
When the girl was interviewed, she reportedly told Sanders she had sex with Pruitt on at least two occasions at an Alcoa hotel. Pruitt said he met the victim on the internet and that the two had exchanged phone numbers. He said they exchanged text messages for several months and that he picked the girl up at a restaurant in the Halls community on Monday.
Pruitt said he took the girl back to Alcoa and spent the day with her, adding that the two spent the night at a hotel in Alcoa. Sanders said Pruitt then confessed to having sex with the girl on at least one occasion.
“Based on his confession, we charged him,” Sanders said. “We were able to corroborate a lot of the (victim’s) story and collected evidence and corroborated that evidence.”
The investigation is currently ongoing, Sanders said.
