Teen injured in crash: Maryville man hospitalized, two others escape injury
From Staff Reports
A Maryville man was flown to University of Tennessee Medical Center after he was injured in a single-vehicle accident Thursday night.
Nicholas A. Vance, 19, Watson Drive, was listed in stable condition Friday evening, hospital staff said.
Vance was a backseat passenger in a Toyota Camry that crashed off Coning Road near McGhee Road at around 11:11 p.m. Jack K. Chartrand, 20, Coning Road, Maryville, was driving the vehicle when he lost control and the vehicle slid off the right side of the roadway, according to the Blount County Sheriff’s Office report.
The vehicle struck several trees before rolling onto its side, where it came to rest.
The crash was dispatched as an ejection, with the vehicle rolling over Vance. However, the police report said Vance was not ejected and was wearing a seat belt when the crash occurred. The report said the driver was inattentive and traveling above the posted speed limit at the time of the crash.
A landing zone was established at Carpenter’s Elementary School, and Vance was taken via Lifestar to UT Medical Center.
The Blount County Fire Department also responded with three firefighters, one truck and one engine.
The driver and another passenger, who were both wearing seat belts, the report said, were uninjured. There was no air bag deployment.
