Townsend man charged with assault

A Townsend man was arrested early Sunday morning after allegedly assaulting a Florida man at a residence on Wears Valley Road, according to a Blount County Sheriff’s Office report.

Nathan Dean Heil, 35, was charged with aggravated assault and domestic violence with assault. He was being held on $8,500 bond pending an appearance today in Blount County General Sessions Court.

Heil was accused of assaulting Adam R. Volmering, 32, Cocoa, Fla., in the driveway at the home of Heil’s 32-year-old girlfriend.

Heil was reportedly brandishing a pocket knife and hit Volmering several times in the face, the woman told officers. The woman said she tried to separate the men but was hit in the mouth and thrown to the ground.

Volmering said Heil escorted him to the end of the driveway at knifepoint, threatening to cut his throat. Volmering got into his vehicle and was attempting to leave when Heil punched him several times in the face, pulled him from the vehicle and threw him down, according to the report.

Volmering got to his feet, got the knife away from Heil and held him at knifepoint until deputies arrived. Volmering had a cut on his head, Heil had a cut lip, and the woman had grass and dirt stains on her pants.
