Angelyn Donaldson Koella

Angelyn Donaldson Koella, age 85, of Knoxville, died Sunday, the 7th of October, 2012, after an extended illness. She was born in 1926, the daughter of William Jay and Emily Craig Donaldson. After growing up in West Knoxville, she graduated from Salem Academy, Pine Manor Junior College and the University of Tennessee (1947). Working a few years at UT’s Hoskins Library left her with happy, lifetime memories. In 1953, she married Richard A. Koella, the beginning of 58 shared years. They lived in Rockford, Louisville, and Knoxville, Tenn. They particularly enjoyed traveling and entertaining. Mrs. Koella was a member of the New Providence Presbyterian Church in Maryville, Knoxville Garden Club, Chi Omega Fraternity, Junior League of Knoxville, Book Lovers Club, Girls’ Cotillion and National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in Tennessee. She served on the Mount Rest Home board. Bridge, gardening, decorating, and reading provided true pleasure. Mrs. Koella stayed in touch with family and friends. She was gifted at connecting people. The family particularly appreciates the 50 years of Christmas parties and summer gatherings, often with imaginative themes. In addition to her parents and her husband, Mrs. Koella was preceded in death by a brother, William Jay Donaldson, Jr.; and three sisters, Lucile D. Kennerly, Mary Elizabeth Donaldson, and Emily D. Austin. She was affectionately called “Aunt Angy” by three generations of Austins, Donaldsons, Kennerlys, Koellas, and Vestals, as well as many other younger friends. Kendra Brewer was a loved and valued companion for the last 10 years. A memorial service will be conducted Tuesday, 9th October 2012, 2 p.m., at New Providence Presbyterian Church, 703 West Broadway Avenue, Maryville, TN 37801. Family members will receive friends after the service. Among Angy and Dick Koella’s philanthropic interests were the Angelyn and Dick Koella Endowment at the UT Library (c/o Library Development, The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, TN 37996), and the New Providence Presbyterian Church (library or music fund).
