Betty Cochran Jones
Betty Cochran Jones, age 64, of Townsend, passed away Tuesday, November 13, 2012, at Blount Memorial Hospital in Maryville. She was a retired U.S. Army nurse. During her career, she held various positions ranging from infectious disease nursing to chief of nursing as well as director of managed care. Betty retired as a colonel (0-6). After retirement, she became president of E-Care Solutions, a company that developed patient electronic records for civilian hospitals. Betty and her husband, Bud Hopkins, moved to Townsend in May 2002. Here Betty became an avid hiker, and joined in many local organizations. Among her passions were The Great Smoky Mountains Heritage Museum, the Appalachian Bear Rescue, the GMS National Park Association and the Tremont Institute. Betty spent her life helping others — people and animals, but her greatest passion was the rescue of bears. Survivors include husband, Bud Hopkins; a twin brother, Bob (Melody) Cochran; two stepchildren, Chris Hopkins and Stephanie (Kelly) Cochran; three grandchildren, Ashley Hopkins, Jonathan and Lauren Cochran; two nephews, Michael and Matthew (Gina) Cochran; two great-nephews, Sam and Alex Cochran and one great-niece Lizzie Cochran.
