Boyd L. Helton Jr.
Boyd L. Helton Jr., age 85, of Maryville, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on January 21, 2013. He was born in Maryville and attended Maryville High School until age 17. He then volunteered to serve during World War II in the United States Navy in the South Pacific. Boyd was saved and baptized at an early age and was of the Baptist faith. He worked many years for Lamberts Construction Company but retired from McGhee Tyson Air Force Base in maintenance operations. After retirement, he enjoyed walking Eagleton Village ballpark walking trails and the Maryville Greenbelt. He enjoyed watching Tennessee Volunteer sports with his family. Preceded in death by parents, Boyd and Dicie Helton, Sr.; wife of 58 years, Madge; son, Don; daughter-in-law, Shelia; brother, J.D. Helton of Indiana. Survivors include brother and sister-in-law, Howard and Phyllis Helton of Norris; daughters and sons-in-law, Gail and J.N. Tyler, Sandy and Mike Payne, Kim and Mike Poling; daughter, Donna Helton Lee; grandchildren, Jill and Brian Cusack, Darrell and Christine Foreman, Angela and Brad Powell, Kelly Tyler, Jeremy Helton and Vanessa Collins, Jason Payne, Jessica and Jesse Tipton, Shelby Poling, and Kori Lee; also survived by eight great-grandchildren. The family would like to extend their gratefulness to Dr. Spence McCachren and staff for their wonderful care during his illness. Funeral service will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, January 23, 2013, at Smith West Chapel with Rev. Glenn Cummings officiating. Family and friends will assemble for interment at 1 p.m. Thursday, January 24, 2013, at Sherwood Memorial Gardens.
