Carl H. Fliegner
Carl H. Fliegner, age 72, of Maryville, crossed over February 4, 2013, at his home. He was the son of the late Carl and Fay Fliegner of Providence, R.I. Mr. Fliegner graduated from Classical High School, Providence, R.I., in 1958. He was honored by the Classical Varsity Club in 1957 for being the first Classical athlete to have received All-State honors in two different sports — track and football. He went to Boston College on a football scholarship, graduating in 1963 with a Bachelor of Science in education. He coached high school football and track for five years after college, in both Massachusetts and Rhode Island, followed by 12 years with DuPont’s Paint Division. He is survived by his wife, the love of his life, Deborah York Fliegner of Maryville; son, Christopher Fliegner of Maryville; daughter, Allyson Fay Fliegner of Maryville; stepsons, Todd and Brian Graves of Charleston, W.Va.; four grandchildren, Olivia, Ryan, Lyndsey, and Jake; sister, Jane Blythe of Sarasota, Fla.; and nephew, Brian Viti of Coventry, R.I.
