Carry Alberta ‘Bert’ Bassett

Carry Alberta “Bert” Bassett, Plano, Texas. Born May 16, 1923, in Maryville, Tenn., and passed away January 16, 2013 in Plano, Texas. Mrs. Bassett was preceded in death by her husband, C. P. Bassett; mother, Vyrsa Costner; and father, Robert McCracken. She is survived by daughter, Judy Bassett Holloway, Plano, Texas; son, Jerry (Billie) Bassett, Lavon, Texas; granddaughters, Julie Holloway Haynes (Matt) and Rebecca Bassett all of Plano, Ashley Dusek (David) of White Oak, Texas, and Susan Valentine (Andy Wilson) of Elbert, Colo.; great-grandchildren, Anna, Sam, and Kate Dusek, of White Oak, Texas. Carry was born and reared in Maryville and attended Friendsville Academy. She married C. P. Bassett in May, 1941. In July, 1948 she began her long career at Bell Telephone. In 1969 with the birth of her first grandchild in Dallas, Texas, she transferred to the Dallas office and retired there in 1986 after 37 ½ years of service. Carry was known among friends and acquaintances for her sharp wit and wicked sense of humor. Those who knew her tell how she kept everyone laughing, even in stressful situations. Those who knew her really well also speak of her kindness and concern for others. She was truly a beam of sunshine. Restland of Dallas is handling arrangements. Visitation: 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. Funeral: 10 a.m. Monday, followed by interment.
