Charles ‘Charlie Ben’ Hughes
Charles “Charlie Ben” Hughes, age 62, of Athens, passed away Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at Parkwest Medical Center. A native of Monroe County, former resident of Blount County, and resident of Athens since 1976, he was a son of the late Lonnie and Lena Mae “Tootsie” Koons Hughes. Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Cathy Hughes; one son, Nathan Hughes of Athens; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Obie and Anna Hughes of Vonore and Mack and Faye Hughes of Maryville; three sisters and brother-in-law, Betty and Grady Whitehead of Tallassee, Tenn., Ruth Jenkins and Ruby Hughes, both of Maryville; one grandson, Christian Hughes; one brother-in-law and wife, Rev. Bill and Patty Pearman of Riceville, Tenn.; special friends, Charles and Verlene Sargarent. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, December 1, 2012, at Parkway Baptist Church.
