Eleanore G. DeYoung

Eleanore G. DeYoung died peacefully on August 11, 2012, at her home in Shannondale of Maryville in Maryville, Tenn. Eleanore was born August 21, 1918, in Chicago, Ill. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jacob LeNoble and Nettie VerHaar LeNoble; and her eldest daughter, Janet Grant (Bill). Survivors include her children, Ellie DeYoung (Joe Siudara), Hardy DeYoung (Sarah) and Marti DeYoung (Al Distefano); grandchildren, Lisa Kornfeld (Gregg) and Elizabeth Rich; great-grandchildren, Hannah and Ian Kornfeld; dear friend, Florence Johnson (Harry); siblings, John LeNoble and Lucille LeNoble; nieces and nephews; and an extensive network of friends and their families who are our extended family. Her family will always be grateful for the love and care she received from the staff at Shannondale. Eleanore earned degrees from Hope College, Wayne State and Rutgers universities, served the congregation of Redford Presbyterian Church (MI), and Nassau Presbyterian Church (N.J.), taught English at Hightstown High School (N.J.), joined Education Testing Service (ETS), and retired at the age of 80, then volunteered at the neighborhood kindergarten in Hamilton Sq. (N.J.). She loved her parents, siblings, nieces/nephews, and was proud and devoted to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She cherished her lifelong friends, extended family and new friends in Maryville, where she moved in 2002 to be near her son and daughter-in-law. She was a member of New Providence Presbyterian Church. Eleanore was a positive thinker and champion for Hope, Belief, Acceptance, Equality, Education and the Empowerment of others. She will be missed and always remembered. The celebration of life service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 1, 2012, at the Shannondale of Maryville Chapel, 804 Shannondale Way, Maryville, TN 37803. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Eleanore’s name to New Providence Presbyterian Church, 703 West Broadway Avenue, Maryville, TN 37801.
