Evelyn Wright Holbrook

Evelyn Wright Holbrook, age 89, of Maryville, passed away Monday, February 18, 2013, at Blount Memorial Hospital. She was born July 22, 1923, in Abingdon, Va., to Luther and Bertie Lee Wright and was a graduate of The George Ben Johnston School of Nursing. She made her home and raised her family in Bristol, Tenn. She was a registered nurse at Bristol Memorial Hospital for 38 years, and a longtime attendee of Eastern Heights Presbyterian Church. She relocated to Maryville in 1998, where she worked at the Maryville Surgical Center for nine years, and was a faithful member of Fairview United Methodist Church. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Grayson Holbrook. Survivors include four children and their spouses, Dr. Jan and Carolyn Holbrook DeWitt, John and Susan Holbrook Jones, Dennis and Penny Holbrook, Dr. Mark and Rebecca Holbrook Flora; nine grandchildren, “Grandma’s 9,” who were the greatest joy of her life — T.J. DeWitt, Paul DeWitt, Hope DeWitt, Ben DeWitt, Laura DeWitt, Lindsay Jones Lewis, Meredith Jones, Gray Holbrook, and Trader Flora; four great-grandchildren; very dear friend, Mary Ellen Rider. The family would like to extend special thanks to friend and neighbor, Brenda Weaver, and all those who have loved our mother. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fairview United Methodist Church Music Ministries, 2508 Old Niles Ferry Road, Maryville, TN 37803. Family will receive friends from 5:30 until 7 p.m. Wednesday, February 20, 2013, at Fairview United Methodist Church in Maryville, followed by a funeral service with Dr. Jerry Russell officiating. Visitation will also be held at Weaver’s Funeral Home, 630 Locust Street, Bristol TN 37620, from 10 until 11 a.m. Thursday, February 21, 2013, followed by a prayer service.
