Frances Leahy Simcox

Frances Leahy Simcox, widow of Colonel Lawrence S. Simcox, U.S. Army, and daughter of deceased Michael and Nell Long Leahy, all of Knoxville, died Friday, December 7, 2012, at the age of 97. She is survived by a sister, Agnes L. Hughes; six children; Ann Fonfara, Tom, Larry, Jr., Bill, Greg, and Joe; 15 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren. Known to all of her family and friends as Tutu, her entire life was devoted to being the consummate Army Wife and the backbone of her family. Her strong Irish roots and her unwavering Roman Catholic faith allowed her to live life to the fullest and to be an inspiration to all whose lives she touched. She was a member of Holy Ghost and All Saints Catholic Churches in Knoxville. The family will receive visitors at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel, 6200 Kingston Pike, from 5:30 to 7 with a Rosary to follow at 7 p.m. Friday December, 14. A Celebration of Life Mass will be held at All Saints Catholic Church on Cedar Bluff Dr. at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 15. Burial with honors will be with her husband in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia, Spring 2013. In lieu of flowers, request that donations be made in her memory to the University of Tennessee Foundation for the COL Lawrence Simcox Memorial Scholarship Endowment, 600 Henley Street, Suite B022, Knoxville, TN 37996-4103.
