Homer H. Shumer

Homer H. Shumer, age 76, of Maryville, passed away Monday, October 8, 2012, at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was a lifetime member of Oak Street Baptist Church. Homer was a brick mason and retired from ALCOA. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who loved camping. He was an avid UT football fan. Preceded in death by parents, Henry and Hattie Shumer; sister, Mary Ann Marshall; brother, Doc Wardell. Survivors include wife of 55 years, Betty Farr Shumer; daughters and sons-in-law, Sheila and Doug Overly, Kathy and Steve Biggar, Terri and Jeff Caylor, and Beth and Stevie Anderson; grandchildren, Brandi Smith and Rob, Chad Sunderland and Mallory, Brett Biggar, Cody Sunderland and Anna, Paige Caylor, and Hunter Anderson; great-grandchildren, Titus Smith, Tinsley Smith, and Lincoln Sunderland; brothers and sisters-in-law, Calvin Wardell, Edwin Shumer and Lorraine, and Don Shumer and Gail; sister, Aleta Bell; special niece, Mary Pryor and husband Gary; and several other nieces and nephews; lifelong friends, Barbara and Dewell Tipton. Special thanks to 4N and ICU at Blount Memorial Hospital and Dr. Mark Green for all their care. Funeral service will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, October 11, 2012, at Smith Trinity Chapel with Rev. Brooky Gray, Rev. Ed Greene, and Bro. Jed Emert officiating. Interment will be at 1 p.m. Friday, October 12, 2012, at Sherwood Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Oak Street Baptist Church Benevolence Fund, 218 Oakdale Street, Maryville, TN 37801.
