Johnnie Edna Alexander
Johnnie Edna Alexander, 87, died peacefully at home on February 3, 2013. Those who knew her best called her “Eddie.” Eddie was born on November 18, 1925, one of eight children in Maryville. Eddie married John Carroll Alexander, Jr., known as “Jack,” of Greenback, in 1946. Jack enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1943 and together, he and Eddie lived in various port cities around the world including Key West, Fla., during their 30-year career in the Navy. Jack and Eddie had two children, Jon Alexander, born in Tennessee, and Elizabeth Alexander Phillips, born in Key West, Fla. They retired to Merritt Island, Fla., in 1973 after their last station in Ankara, Turkey. Jack and Eddie remained active in community organizations including the Azan Shrine Temple, the Eastern Star, Daughter of the Nile, P.E.O. and WOW. Friends and family were always very important to Eddie. She is survived by sister, Lynn DeLozier; daughter, Elizabeth Phillips (Craig); grandchildren, Craig Roberts (Sarah Prior), Melissa Phillips and Alexander Phillips; and great-grandchildren, Margaret and Malcolm Roberts.
