Lavinia Maddox Caviness
Lavinia Maddox Caviness, 83, died at Beacon Place, Greensboro, N.C., on May 16, 2013. She is now rejoicing in heaven with her husband and other relatives and friends. Lavinia was born in Belton, S.C., to Robert Earl Maddox, Sr., and Marion Breazeale Maddox. She moved to Greensboro, N.C., as a young child and grew up there. She graduated from Greensboro Senior High School and GTCC. Lavinia worked many years for the Greensboro City Schools and was cafeteria manager at Lindley Junior High and Irving Park Elementary. Lavinia was married to Quince Avery Caviness for 56 years before his passing. Her husband, Quince; her parents; and grandson, William Lee “Will” Caviness; predecease her. Three brothers also predecease her. Lavinia is survived by sons, Lee Caviness (Wanda) of Greensboro, Bill Caviness (Sallie Blazer) of Maryville; grandchildren, Sean Caviness (Kathy) and Jenny Caviness (Will, predeceased) of Greensboro, Billy Caviness (Avril) of Greenville, S.C., and Mitch Caviness of Maryville. She is also survived by two stepgrandchildren, Eric McFarland (Cindy, predeceased) and Shea Stewart (Anthony) of Greensboro, N.C.. Lavinia had 12 great-grandchildren to survive her. Lavinia was a member of St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church. A memorial service will be held 6 p.m. Monday, May 20, 2013, at Forbis and Dick, N. Elm Street. The family will receive friends following the service. She will be interred in Arlington National Cemetery where she will be with her husband Quince.
