Merle Maxine Hughes Sexton

Merle Maxine Hughes Sexton, 84, of Athens, Ga., passed away Wednesday, October 10, 2012. A native of Blount County, Mrs. Sexton was the daughter of the late Melbourne Montgomery Hughes and Ella Whitehead Hughes. She was one of the co-founders and past president of the M.A.D.D. Athens Chapter and was of the Quaker faith. Survivors include her husband, Ray F. Sexton of Athens; son, Ronald Ray Sexton of Tickfaw, La.; daughters, Sandra Lynn McIntosh of Covington, Ky., and Karen Sue Marsh and husband, Kevin B. of Irmo, S.C.; brother, Eugene Hughes of Naples, Fla.; sister, Faye Webb of Tampa, Fla.; granddaughters, Amy Misenheimer and Rebecca Marsh; and great-grandchildren, Ada and Cole Misenheimer. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, October 13, at Bernstein Funeral Home. A private graveside service will be held Sunday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Georgia Chapter, 41 Perimeter Center East, Suite 550, Atlanta, GA 30346.
