Minnie Ann Stratton Foster
Minnie Ann Foster, 88, left this life on Thursday, November 15, 2012, at Holston Valley Medical Center. Born and raised in Townsend, the fifth of nine children, she graduated from Townsend High School. She served in the U.S. Army Nursing Corps during WWII at Ft. Oglethorpe, Ga. She married Irving Douglas Foster on April 17, 1945, and enjoyed 55 blissful years until his passing in 2000. She was past president of the VFW Auxiliary #3382 and past president of American Legion Post #3. Minnie is of the Catholic faith and attended St. Dominic’s Church. She always had a smile, hug and a song for everyone. She is preceded in death by her husband, Doug Foster; son, Daniel Foster; daughter, Rebecca Foster; her parents, Claude Cleveland and Minnie Ann Cameron Stratton; and six brothers and sisters. Left to mourn her passing are her sons and daughters, Irving Douglas Foster, Jr. and wife Jeanne, James (Buddy) Foster and wife Kathy, Maralee F. Carter, Ginny Foster, Joe Foster and wife Angie, Chris Foster and wife Carolyn, and Martha Hill and husband Ed, with two special grandchildren, Rhiannon Hill and Jeffrey Hill, along with 13 other grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty White and Octavia Jane Burchfield and husband Theron; two sisters-in-law, Merle Foster and Betty Powell; along with numerous nieces, nephews and an abundance of friends. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 17, 2012, at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, 520 Watauga Street, Kingsport. Funeral services will follow conducted by Rev. John White and Rev. I. Douglas Foster, Jr., officiating. Military graveside services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, November 17, 2012, at Campground Methodist Church Cemetery, Townsend. Pallbearers will be her grandsons. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Campground United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund.
