Roxie Eva Mae King Bivens Lankford
Roxie Eva Mae King Bivens Lankford, age 96, went home to be with Jesus at 5:35 p.m. Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at East Tennessee Health Care in Madisonville. She was a member of Friends Meeting of Ballplay. She retired from Monroe County School System as cafeteria manager, and kept foster children for many years. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Preceded in death by her first husband and father of her children, Rastus Bivens; second husband, Luke Lankford; parents, Booker and America Bryant King; brothers, Virgil and Melvin King; sisters, Dessie Yates, Tilda Carmley, Hilda Blair, Bessie Bivens. Survivors include daughter, Barbara (Bobbie) Smalling, of Ballplay Community; son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Cora Bivens, of Sewanne; grandchildren, Richard Smalling, Janice and Ike Effler, Melissa and Mike Hooper, Lora and John Martin, Jennifer and Russ Pierce; great-grandchildren, Brandon Smalling, Adam Martin, Rachel Martin, Samuel Pierce, Brady Hooper, Allen Effler; great-great-grandchildren, Chandon Smalling, Hope Smalling, Christian Effler; many nieces, nephews, and friends. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Biereley-Hale Chapel, Rev. Scott Knight officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Friends Cemetery. Family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Biereley-Hale Funeral Home, Madisonville. In lieu of flowers the family suggest donations be made to Friends Meeting of Ballplay.
