Stephen Lane Rogers

Stephen Lane Rogers took his final flight and flew into the arms of Jesus on Wednesday, February 13, 2013. He leaves behind his broken-hearted, loving wife of 39 years, Kay. He was chief pilot for the University of Tennessee, a job he cherished and was affectionately known as “Captain” for his love of flying. Steve passed away after a long brave battle with esophageal cancer. He couldn’t speak and communicated using a voice box pressed to his neck. His cancer spread and his “miracle” was not to be. Steve had an amazing joy for life, always smiling and loved being with his soul mate, Kay. His passion was flying his Cessna 310, the “Songbird.” He was born in Pulaski, son of the late Guy and Josie (brother Barry) Rogers. He attended Green Meadow UMC and loved the Lord deeply. Leaves behind family: Joan and Gurvis, Judy, Kenny, Lori, Mike, Debbie, Joe, Judy, Aunt Virginia and other loving family/friends. Visitation is Sunday, February 17, 2013, Broadway United Methodist Church, 309 E. Broadway Ave. (downtown), Maryville, from 3:30-6 p.m. with a Celebration of Life at 6 p.m. Steve will be buried in Pinecrest Cemetery, Covington, La. (Kay’s hometown). Steve loved animals and in lieu of flowers, you may donate to our animal shelter: Smoky Mountain Animal Care Foundation, in memory of Steve Rogers, P.O. Box 7218, Maryville TN, 37802 (865-300-6251). We hope you will share memories of Steve at http://www.millerfuneralhome.org
