Bassmaster app a must have

By Tom Wiest | (sports@thedailytimes.com)

Don’t let the price fool you. This is one of the most useful apps an angler can have. And it’s free. The Bassmaster Fishing Weather App is a powerful new fishing-specific weather app for the Android and iPhone markets.

The app displays a map with the user’s precise position and weather conditions. It simplifies planning for tournament and recreational anglers alike by merging world-class weather information, wind mapping, solunar times, tides and moon, and hourly barometric changes all in one free app.

Bassmaster Magazine and http://Bassmaster.com have joined with http://www.scoutlookweather.com , the only major U.S. weather service owned and operated solely by fishermen and hunters. The app can be downloaded at http://www.scoutlookweather.com .php.

There’s more. Anglers can download a simple logging tool that can record a catch by snapping a photo and capturing all weather conditions at the time of the catch automatically. The Fishlog app is available for a one-time fee of $3.99; it enables the user to edit, manage, view and sort logs online at http://www.scoutlookweather.com .

Then there is FishMarX, a GPS marking tool used while on the water to save important points of interest. Return to the exact places, or check the weather before heading back. Save beds, boat launches, buoys, channels, creek mouths, dropoffs, gravel, flats, parking areas, river/stream outlets, timber, trailheads, weedbeds and more.

• Join the fun at the Ducks Unlimited Volunteer Chapter Banquet on Friday, March 15. Besides a fine meal and fellowship, there will be a live auction, raffles, drawings, and games. The auction will include a NASCAR experience for two, an Argentine dove hunt for four, and much more. The raffle alone features 16 firearms.

Doors open at 6:00 p.m. at Rothchilds Banquet Center on Kingston Pike in Knoxville. Single tickets are $50 and a couple goes for $75. For tickets contact Chris Knight at 865-719-9710; or go online to http://www.ducks.org and select events.

• For those needing a hunter education certificate, be advised that now the only way to sign up for a hunter education class will be online. The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency lists the upcoming classes on its website, which you can see by going to http://www.tnwildlife.org and selecting Hunting, then Hunter Education.
